Score breakdown for a 100-point test
| Score | Percent | Letter |
|---|---|---|
| 90/100 | 90% | A- |
| 80/100 | 80% | B- |
| 70/100 | 70% | C- |
| 50/100 | 50% | F |
How this is calculated
Divide the points earned by the points possible and multiply by 100: 50 ÷ 100 × 100 = 50%. On the common 10-point-band scale that lands in the F range — you'd have needed 90/100 to reach the A band.
Common questions
Do professors round up borderline grades?
Entirely at their discretion, and policies vary wildly: some round anything above .5, some round at .45, some never round, and some round only for students who attended office hours or showed improvement. If you're within half a point of a boundary, it is always worth a polite question — before finals week, not after grades post.
Why does my school's GPA differ from this one?
Schools differ on three things: whether A+ counts as 4.3 or 4.0, whether plus/minus grades are used at all, and whether honors/AP courses are weighted above 4.0. This calculator uses the most common unweighted convention (A+ = 4.0, minus/plus in 0.3 steps). Your registrar's number is the official one.
