Every grade calculator a student needs

Is a 3.8 GPA Good?

A 3.8 GPA on the unweighted 4.0 scale is roughly an A- average — about 93% — and it puts you in the top tier — competitive for the most selective graduate programs, scholarships and honors lists.

Context that matters more than the number

GPA is read alongside course rigor and trajectory. A 3.8 earned in a demanding major with an upward trend reads better than the same number from an easy schedule that's sliding. Mathematically, raising a 3.8 takes time: one straight-A semester of 15 credits moves a 60-credit GPA by only 0.04 points — which is why starting the climb early beats a senior-year sprint.

Common questions

Can I still pass if I fail the final?

Often, yes — it depends on your current grade and the final's weight. With an 80 going in and a final worth 20%, even a 40 on the final leaves you at 72. Run your exact numbers in the calculator; 'failing the final means failing the class' is only true when the final is very heavily weighted or your cushion is thin.

How are letter grades calculated from percentages?

Most US schools map percentages to letters in 10-point bands: 90–100 is an A range, 80–89 a B range, 70–79 a C range, 60–69 a D range, and below 60 an F. Plus/minus splits each band roughly in thirds (e.g. 90–92 = A-, 93–96 = A, 97+ = A+). Individual schools and professors can and do vary the cutoffs.
